10 iPhone Apps for Surfers

Finding apps on iPhones is fun. Before I left mine in 118 degree weather at the lake, I would always be searching for new apps to come out. There’s the classic “Words with Friends” that everybody loves. However, the useful and practical apps are the best and most realistic. So, surfers grab your iPhones and let’s get this rolling. Here are 10 iPhone apps for surfers…

ASPtoGo…$.99; gives us access to the world’s best surfers going off in the world’s best waves. This app provides event status, live scoring, heat results, rankings, daily images, and video highlights.

NOAA Ocean Buoys…$.99; equips us with access to live data channeled from over 120 buoys throughout North America, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean. Most buoys provide information about current wave heights and periods, wind speed and direction, air and water temperature, atmospheric pressure and tendency, and dew points.

Surfline…free; provides us with the most accurate surf reports and surf forecasts up to 5 days in prior for thousands of surf spots worldwide. Apparently, Surfline is the only surfing app available with LIVE streaming HD surf cams for over 90 locations in the US and Hawaii.

Kayak…free; provides us with the capability to compare flights, hotels, and car rental deals, track our flight status, view and manage our trip itinerary, look up baggage fees, and access airline numbers and any airport information. This app also allows you to book your hotel  right then and there.

Shralp Tide…free; allows us to check the tides before we head to the beach to surf, tide pool or just go for walk or run. It displays high and low tides for that particular day and as well as the next 4 days.

Oakley Surf Report…free; powered by Surfline, this app allows us to check the surf height, well direction, and tide, monitor the weather, and view a 2 day forecast.

Stormrider Surf Guide…$7.99; this app is apparently the only app that gives us accurate surf spot information when we are online OR offline. This app also provides us with up-to-the-minute, dependable, surf forecasting from Magicseaweed.

Surf Watch…$9.99; featured in the New York Times, this app notifies us when wind and wave conditions for our favorite buoys match our ideal surf criteria.

Tide Graph…$1.99; this graphs out the sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset, and moon phase at a glance. This app allows us to save our recent locations, find locations using GPS, and save our graphs for later.

FlightTrack Pro…$9.99; allows us to import flight data automatically from any airline confirmation email and get push alerts with real-time changes to your flight. We can also get real-time flight itinerary updates and zoomable maps.

So, hopefully these help you out at some time or another! Some other awesome iPhone apps are the Hurley Pro, US Open of Surfing, The Weather Channel, the Rip Curl Surfing Game, and the Billabong Surf Trip.
